Drew & Co, Plymouth — 40kVA Sentryum UPS with Extended Battery Runtime
Like-for-like replacement of an end-of-life MST 40 UPS with a Riello Sentryum S3T Xtend 40kVA and a new 70Ah external battery cabinet — providing 26 minutes runtime at full load using the existing maintenance bypass panel.
The Challenge
The site had an existing MST 40 UPS (no internal batteries) and external battery pack at end of life, with a 100A 3-phase maintenance bypass panel already installed. The replacement needed to use the existing bypass infrastructure, deliver equivalent or better runtime, and integrate cleanly with the existing 100A 3-phase supply — all with minimal site disruption.
Our Solution
A Riello Sentryum S3T Xtend 40kVA (no internal batteries) was supplied to replace the existing unit, using the installed maintenance bypass panel. A new external battery cabinet housing one string of 40 × 70Ah batteries delivered 26 minutes runtime at full 40kW load. NetMan 208 and MultiCOM 392 relay contacts provided both SNMP monitoring and simple volt-free alarm outputs. Our engineer completed the battery cabinet build and UPS commissioning on site.
The Outcome
The replacement delivered 26 minutes of runtime at full load — a meaningful improvement on the previous system — using the existing bypass infrastructure and supply cabling, with both network and relay-contact monitoring in place.
