Wessex Water, Upton Scudamore WTW — Industrial IP54 UPS for Water Treatment
A ruggedised industrial UPS in an IP54 enclosure with Modbus integration, 10-minute autonomy and 10-year design life batteries — protecting critical control systems at a Wessex Water treatment works.
The Challenge
Water treatment works present a harsh environment for UPS equipment: humidity, dust and chemical contamination demand industrial-grade protection. Wessex Water required a single-phase UPS for control systems at Upton Scudamore WTW with 10 minutes of backup, Modbus integration for their building management system, and a 10-year battery life to reduce maintenance overhead at a remote site.
Our Solution
A Riello Sentryum S3M 10kVA Xtend Industrial UPS — with conformal-coated boards, additional EMC filters and IP30 protection as standard — was housed in a bespoke IP54-rated enclosure for the harsh site environment. 10-year design life batteries were specified to minimise replacement cycles. An RB1 80A compact bypass panel, NetMan 208c network card for Modbus integration, and full commissioning by a manufacturer-authorised engineer completed the installation. A 12-month maintenance contract was included as part of an ongoing Wessex Water support arrangement.
The Outcome
Water treatment control systems protected against mains failure in a fully IP54-rated, Modbus-integrated package — with 10-year batteries that minimise maintenance intervention at a remote site, consistent with our ongoing support relationship with Wessex Water.
