A 16kVA Riello CSS EN 50171-compliant central power supply with a 25Ah battery box providing 30 minutes of backup for three sprinkler system pumps at a Nottingham extra care housing development.
The extra care housing development required a central supply system to support three fire sprinkler pumps, each drawing 5.9A per phase — a total load of 17.7A per phase. The system needed to be fully EN 50171 compliant and deliver a minimum of 30 minutes autonomy to satisfy fire safety regulations, with the electrical installation to be completed by the main contractor before commissioning.
A Riello CSS CBT 20 (16kVA/16kW, rated per EN 50171) was specified — a three-phase input, single-phase output central power supply with 120% continuous overload capacity, dual input, high recharge current and interface contacts as standard. A 25Ah battery box housing 40 × 22Ah cells provides the required 30 minutes at the 17.7A per phase sprinkler load. A NetMan 208 network management card and RB1 63A 4-pole EMBS bypass switch completed the package. Commissioning was carried out by a manufacturer-authorised engineer once the main contractor had completed all electrical installation works.
A fully EN 50171-compliant central power supply delivering 30 minutes of guaranteed autonomy for the sprinkler pumps — meeting building regulations for life-safety fire suppression systems in an extra care residential environment, with network monitoring and a maintenance bypass for safe servicing.
