A BS EN 50171-compliant 30kVA emergency central battery system providing over one hour of autonomy for life-safety emergency lighting at a commercial property development.
9 Property Group required a central power system for emergency lighting at their Pinfold Loughborough development, compliant with BS EN 50171 and sized to support a 16.4kW load for 60 minutes. The system needed to accommodate regenerative lift loads and deliver over an hour of autonomy throughout its 10-year battery life.
A 30kVA (30kW) emergency central system — rated at 25kW per EN 50171 — was supplied with 60 × 52Ah 12V batteries on a 4-tier, 3-row open battery stand. An 80A wall-mounted external maintenance bypass, 100A DC isolation panel and full DC interconnection were included. The battery bank was sized to deliver 1 hour 22 minutes autonomy when new, degrading to 1 hour 2 minutes at end of life (10 years) — exceeding the 60-minute requirement throughout the system's life.
A fully EN 50171-compliant emergency lighting power supply with guaranteed 60-minute autonomy across the 10-year battery life, maintenance bypass for safe servicing, and proper DC isolation — meeting building regulations for life-safety systems.
