Goonhilly Earth Station — Multi-UPS Expansion: 2 × 120kVA + 30kVA
Installation of two 120kVA Riello Sentryum S3T Xtend UPS systems with external battery stands alongside a 30kVA S3T Active — a complex multi-UPS project at one of the UK's most demanding communications sites.
The Challenge
Goonhilly required significant new UPS capacity across multiple areas of the site: two high-current 120kVA systems with substantial external battery banks, plus a compact 30kVA unit for quieter environments. All systems required full cabling, battery racking, DC isolation and network management across a complex site with stringent uptime requirements.
Our Solution
Two Riello Sentryum S3T Xtend 120kVA UPS units were supplied, each with a dedicated 4-tier, 2-row cladded battery stand housing 40 × FIAMM 12FLB300P (12V 84Ah) cells, 200A 3-pole DC isolators, parallel cards and NetMan 208 network management cards. A 30kVA S3T Active with parallel card and network card completed the package. Full cabling was provided — mains from LV switchboard to each EMBS, EMBS to output distribution board, and all DC tails — with complete installation, dressing and commissioning.
The Outcome
Three UPS systems operational with full network monitoring, redundancy-capable parallel architecture and properly engineered battery infrastructure. Each 120kVA system was supplied with a 250A 400V feed; the 30kVA with a 100A (80A) 400V feed.
